Mystery Meat

Earlier on, i went to a chemistry 'get to know your peers' lunch. There was a whole bunch of chemistry students, and a whole bunch of sandwiches.

Now don't get me wrong, many of the sandwiches were very tasty, fairly appealing and kind to the pallet. This included such things as:

  • Tuna salad
  • Egg mayonaise
  • Ham and lettuce
  • Cheese and tomato
  • also, various other random vegetarian crap

However, there was a plate of seemingly innocent looking sandwiches in attendance at the lunch. they were labelled 'MEAT'. This is where the fun started. And very swiftly finished.

On closer inspection of the filling of the sandwich, it was clearly some kind of processed beef or something. But there was a problem. Draw your mind back to the last time you saw processed meat- What did it look like?- brown and slippery? NO it did not. This is FAIL.

Nonetheless, me and my new chemistry friend Tom decided to take a bite. Large mistake.

First, came the texture of worrying slippery meat, then, for some reason, an OVERPOWERINGLY SOUR aftertaste. What? It began to fill your mouth and gradually attempted to induce vomit... Admittedly, we all found this hilarious!

Surprisingly, all the 'meat sandwiches' were gone after lunch had finished. They seemed quite popular, but somehow i can't help but wonder how many of them joined ours and ended up in the bin.
